VOUCHER SCHEME FOR FREE SCHOOL MEAL CHILDREN (NOT UNIVERSAL)

Free School Meals Voucher Scheme - 23/04/2020

We are sure that parents and carers will have heard or read about the governments free school meal voucher scheme.   This scheme has been implemented to offer support to those families who are on certain benefits and their child(ren) are eligible for free school meals. If your family qualifies, we will issue you with a shopping voucher. The scheme is only available whilst schools are closed during the coronavirus pandemic.

Please note - this is not the same as Universal Infant Free School Meals where all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a school meal free of charge).

Nationally, schools have experienced huge difficulties in accessing the voucher scheme and issuing vouchers to families since the scheme was announced by the government.  We are told that many of these difficulties have been addressed and the supply of vouchers should be more straightforward from here. Due to the difficulties in accessing the Governments system, this first voucher we have purchased directly from Asda and is to the value of £23.00.  This covers a two week period (£2.30 per day, per child) and can be redeemed at the checkout.  These vouchers have been purchased from the school’s budget. Moving forward school hope to secure the vouchers from the DfE. The value of these vouchers is £3.00 per day, per child via the Government scheme and can be redeemed in a variety of supermarkets.

We will be issuing all pupils who are eligible for free school meals with a free school meal e-voucher.  These can be collected from school on Friday 24th April 2020

Those families who are eligible for free school meals, will receive a text message from school informing them of a time to collect their voucher.  This will ensure that we follow the government social distancing guidance and ensure we do not have a high number of parents coming to school at the same time.

Yours faithfully,

THE GRAB AND GO OFFER

In order to pre-order your meals for the days ahead, please email:   schoolmeals@grampian.derby.sch.uk

School will continue update the menu on our school Facebook page. We are asking all our families to follow us on Facebook during this time and email us with your menu choices.

As we reduce the staff in school to a minimum, we need to work efficiently. We will not have the staff in school to contact families via the phone as we have done this morning.

We will have your order ready.  Please arrive at the following times, according to which class your youngest child attends:

  • Nursery – 12 noon
  • Reception – 12:10pm
  • Year 1 – 12:20pm
  • Year 2 – 12:30pm
  • Year 3 & 4 – 12:40pm
  • Year 5 & 6 – 12:50pm

We are in receipt of some generous donations at this time.  Therefore, we are able to provide the first 1150 meals free of charge. We are extending this offer to all family members living in the family home.

20th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

For those families at home, we are in a position where we can still offer meals – as a “Grab and Go” service at a cost of 75p per meal.  This offer is available to the whole family that live in the family home (Grampian pupils, parents and older/younger siblings).

If your child attends Grampian, and they qualify for a free school meal (you will receive a text message by 3pm today confirming this) there will be no charge for these pupils.  The charge will still apply for other family members should they wish to order a meal.

This is different to the Universal Infant Free School Meals Offer for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

If you would like to take up this offer, meals need to be pre-ordered by 10am each day. Orders can be placed by emailing schoolmeals@grampian.derby.sch.uk

Meals will need to be collected from school between 12-1pm from outside the school hall.  School will be unable to deliver meals to families as we will be reducing our staff levels in line with the government guidance, and to ensure we have staff throughout the Easter period.

In addition, those children who will be in school because they require specialist support (vulnerable families or children of critical workers) will not pay anything and will be provided with a meal.  These families will have been in contact by school today.

May we take this opportunity to wish all of you the very best at this challenging time.

With best wishes
