Child Protection and Safeguarding
Grampian Primary Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Parents can feel confident that carefully thought out policies, procedures and practice are in place, underpinned by advice from the Derby Safeguarding Children Board and taking account of guidance issued by the DfE (Government Department for Education). Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such action would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
The school’s Safeguarding Team is made up of the following senior leaders:
- The school has two named designated leads for child protection and safeguarding is Mrs M Murfin (Headteacher) and Mrs L Hanser (Deputy Headteacher).
- The deputy designated lead for child protection and safeguarding is the Mrs Spooner (SENDCo).
- Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy is available in the policies section of the website.
Grampian has a dedicated safeguarding team of six members of staff to ensure that the children are kept as safe as possible. Should you have any concerns about the welfare, health or safety of a child please contact one of the team.
- Murfin (Headteacher)

All staff working within the school have receive mandatory child protection training delivered in line with the guidance from Derby Safeguarding Children Board. Those staff who work regularly with children and families and may be asked to contribute to child protection processes, including teachers, teaching assistants and the school admin team, have received additional child protection training in accordance to the Derby Safeguarding Children Board. All staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection updates through email and staff meetings as required.
Children will be taken seriously if they seek help from a member of staff. It is the duty of every member of staff to record and report any concern in accordance to the procedures outlined in the Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
Grampian Primary Academy believes that ‘Safeguarding’ covers any area of school life that may affect the safety, vulnerability or wellbeing of the children. In recognition of this, other policies relating to wider aspects of safeguarding are in place and may be requested at any time. Please contact the school office.
